Sound and Vision
Before I continue editing the music video, I feel like experimenting a little bit. I have been actually with clips shot in 60 frames per second (fps). I know how to convert them to 24 fps. It’s a technique I found out a while ago. One thing you should know when editing is that if you want “slo-motion” to be smooth, you must shoot it at 60 fps. If that’s not possible to shoot it at that rate, then that sucks. One thing I’m having trouble when it comes to converting the 60fps to 24 fps is the audio portion. To convert it, you gotta right-click the video portion of your clip. Click on “properties” and a window will appear. Under the “undersample” rate, you change the number to frame rate you’re working with. When it comes to 24 fps (or 23.976 interlaced), you put “.4”. Then you drag the end point of your clip until it snaps to its approproate end point. You’ll notice the change in the video but the audio loops. I hate that the audio loops. I wish the audio velocity can stretch as the video stretches. It doesn’t get any better if you ungroup the clip and have the video and audio seperate from each other. Or so I thought. I finally figured out how to stretch the time of the audio so that it’s appropriate to the new stretch of the video. So the audio won’t loop along the video stretch, I ungrouped them. I highlight the audio by sinmply clicking on it. I hold “ctrl” and place the mouse cursor at the end point of the audio clip. The cursor changes to what I call “squiggly”. I then click, hold, and drag the end point to the end point of the video. I noticed that the audio waves stretched. I couln’t freakin’ believe it.
Experimenting – You know those certain shots in films where a man runs in normal time and when he jumps, time slows down. When he lands back on his feet, time is normal again. A perfect example of that is the winning kill in COD (I hope you know what I mean). I was trying to that certain editing with a clip I had. That stuff is either hard because of the way I try to do it or it’s easy. I was trying to do it with the least amount of steps as possible. It’s a very specific sequence of edits ‘cause you’re dealing with time and I don’t want either video or the audio to be one frame off and that shit bugs me. That’s when markers come in handy. It’s best to put markers on the trimmer window rather on the timeline when it comes to working with clips. Its easier and far more easier when when you uncheck the snapping box.
I haven’t been working on the music video of “California Living”. I don’t feel the need to right now since I’m not done shooting it. Not a big deal. Not a bad thing. I think I put enough time on it so far. All the clips are on the timeline in their spots. I don’t want to mess with them because by the time I have the other clips, I don’t want make the decision to remove my current clips for any “artistic” reason.
I’ve been playing a lot fo Super Street Fighter IV. It’s fun. I realized how fast-pcaed it really is. I remember when it first came out in the arcade cabinets, it didn’t look impressive. It looked slow. I would see people play and it looked slow to me. I got used to the speed I suppose. It’s pretty cool. I have yet to pass it with Vega. Fuckin’ Seth is an asshole. I hate him. I want to get pretty good with Ken. I know, he’s very acessible and easy to learn but hey, I like him. I always have. Ever since I was a little kid. He’s a fast and strong character. EX is hard with Vegas ‘cause to do his attacks, you have to hold the direction for a certain amount of time. With Ken, you don’t have to worry about that. To do his attacks are a cinch. I wish I can play right now.
Today is somewhat of a new chapter in my life, both financially and academically. The chapter plot is me applying for subsidized loans. I realzied that I don’t have enough aid to cover 12 units every quarter. I don’t know if I should feel ashamed or embarrasssed. Or both. I’m upset though. Not that this my fault in a way. I am foolish that I didn’t do reasearch before to prevent this because yesterday was the day for registering classes. I was only able to register for Communications 300. All the classes I want to register for are necessary. I need them. I wanted to take enroll in 16 units this upcoming Fall quarter. I found out through my research after I applied for the loan is I’m not suppose to receive aid or enough aid because of my enrollmnt status. After four years of college, I get stripped a bit. Or a lot in my case. Also my EFC was not a score of zero but rather three-hundred thrity-three, that disqualifies my to earn the university state grant. I guess me and my Dad made a lot of money last year. Curses. Upside is that I won’t be paying it back after I graduate. I wonder if Felix took out loans. I gotta ask him (Remind me. Remind myself. Remember). I was very depressed about it yesterday morning. I was kind of trippin’ out when I when I couldn’t register. I drove to school and went to the financial aid office. I did have the biggest feeling that I would have to take out loans.
I’m itchy. Today in the late afternoon I’m shooting more stuff for the music video. I wonder if I’m gonna shoot more lip syncing stuff or just stock footage. I’d love to do both. I have to do it in three hours ‘cause I have plans in the evening. I wonder if Esteban will be ready for the shoot next Sunday. The young man doesn’t look ready. On Monday, I’m going over to his house to work on his lines. His character has as much lines as the main character. He’s interested and everything as he says he does but doesn’t prove that interest. Has he even read the screenplay? I hope he has. His day off is on Monday. So is mines. It’ll get done. I need storyboards as well. I have been thinking about them. I’m imagining what kind of shots I want for the day of the shoot. I’m also thinking of a different location. My first location is good but I know there can be a better one. But where? I’m sure there’s tons of places with benches on them.
